Kiwis posess what is know as number 8 wire mentality. This stems from a belief that anything can be made or fixed with basic or everyday materials.

Sculpture background

Green Islands were orignally installed outside of Te Papa as a part of the Wellington Sculpture Trust's Four Plinths Project.

The are made from number 8 wire.

Gentry comments:

"If you think about it, most plants in the middle of a city are there because people have planted them [...] They’ve been chosen because they are easy to look after and won’t grow too big. I guess that makes my plants the ultimate!"
