Listening and Viewing Device

Bit of a mover

A gyroscope is a device for measuring or maintaining orientation. Gyroscopic effects are also central to things like yo-yos yo and Frisbees!

Sculpture background

This artwork was constructed out of copper and steel and is a gyroscopic sculpture.

This sculpture is designed to complement Wellington's gale-force winds. When the wind is blowing it makes its own distinct form of music and it even sways in an endlessly changing pattern.

Andrew Drummond has an interesting attitude towards his piece of art:

"I call it what it is, a device, so I'm not mystifying it at all. It's a device for viewing and listening. You can grab hold of it, you can get inside it and look up it, you can move it round."
