Sculpture background

This sculpture was donated by the Wellington Tenths Trust. Anchor Stone was commissioned for the Wellington Town Hall centenary. Anchor Stone also commemorates the location's earlier function as a fishing spot, before the reclamation of Wellington Harbour.

Anchor Stone is carved from Taranaki andesite, and is polished around the rope for the hole, suggesting age and frequent use.
